Rose Helen (Shields) Dapper was born on April 23, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa and died telling stories and cracking jokes surrounded by family on November 29, 2018 in Seattle, Washington, lost to the effects of too many birthdays. The sixth of seven children born to Edward and Alice Shields, Rose grew up on the farm in Granger, Washington, graduating from Granger High School in 1947. After high school she attended secretarial school. While working in Yakima, she met Jack Dapper while in line for a movie. They married in 1950 and soon were moving throughout the northwest for Jack’s work with the phone company. Rose and Jack welcomed daughters Susan and Karin, followed by sons Daniel, Edward, Robert and Peter. The Dapper family moved to Shoreline, Washington in 1965. Soon Rose found herself a single parent with six children under the age of fourteen. Within a week she had found work as a bookkeeper for a small company, a job she would go to every workday for the next 20+ years. She never looked back. Rose was a force of nature. In another generation she may have run a corporation or held high political office; instead she ran our family. There were tough times but they were also times of love and laughter. Rose enjoyed Husky football, Zags basketball, Anderson Cooper, the NY Times crossword done in ink, and a dry martini. She loved her family and they loved her back. Rose is survived by her daughters Sue Sande (Allan) and Karin LaFramboise (Bill), sons Dan (Susan), Ed and Pete (Monica) along with her thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Bob, and all six brothers and sisters. She lived her way, independent, at her home in Kenmore up until her passing. Rose's family offer sincere thanks to the staff of Evergreen Hospital, Northwest Hospital and Christa who so lovingly and respectfully cared for her in her last few days. A mass in celebration of Rose's Life will be held December 14th at 11AM, St.Luke’s church in Shoreline. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Elizabeth Gregory Home for homeless and at-risk women.
