Melvin Randy Watts Sr., 74, husband of Linda Watts, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in Lexington. Melvin was born in Lexington, Kentucky on March 17, 1949 to the late Linville and Audrey Watts. He served in the United States Army in the 4th Platoon, having the position of head chief and receiving a Good Conduct Medal. He also worked as a mechanic with Dixie Cup for many years. Melvin was known by all as having a big contagious smile, never knowing a stranger, and being there for the youth in his community no matter what. Lovingly called, "Coach Grandpa," he loved coaching football over the years in youth leagues, and watching sports whenever he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and are left to cherish his memory. In addition to his wife, Linda, Melvin is survived by his sons, Melvin Watts Jr., and Joshua Watts; his sisters, Jackie McMillan, Debbie Greene, and Theresa Swift; his brother, Gary Kippy Watts; and his grandchild, Gabriel Watts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Conrad and brother, John Ronnie Watts. A funeral service will be held for Melvin Watts Sr. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11am at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing. Visitation will be from 9am till time of service. Burial to follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens with military honors. A reception time with food will also take place directly after the graveside back at the funeral home.
