Anita Louise Harrild Topolinski, 85, of Shoreline, WA, passed away January 23, 2019 at home, surrounded by family and friends. Anita was born July 17, 1933 in Yakima, WA to Jessie and Edmund Harrild. She grew up in Seattle and Kenmore, WA, graduating from St. Catherine’s elementary school in 1948 and Holy Angels Academy in 1952. As a young woman she worked at Bert Lindgren’s Dance Hall in Kenmore, General Insurance Company, Dolly McAssey’s Dress Shop, and Bell Telephone Co. In 1957 she took a month-long trip to Europe that provided her with many fond memories. Shortly after she returned, she met her true love, her husband of 60 years, Ward. A. Topolinski. They were married in 1958. Anita was a 58-year resident of Shoreline, WA where she and Ward raised 5 children and she was a devout parishioner at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. She was very active in Queen of Martyrs Guild, ran the Couples and Ladies Pinochle groups for years, volunteered for countless devotionals, and became known for her baked goods, especially her pies. Homemaking was Anita’s career for much of her adult life and her loving care was extended to all who knew her, with many thinking of her as a second mom. Later in life, she was in charge of the kitchen at Phinney Ridge Day Care Center, where she earned the moniker “The Best Cooker”. Anita truly loved life. She was a goer and doer, never missing a chance to attend a function, a craft fair, show visitors her city of Seattle, go to a play, or get to know the cashier wherever she was shopping. She was a competitive Scrabble player, loved doing the daily crossword puzzle, reading, and knitting blankets and hats she gifted to lucky family, friends and charities. She once said she had a goal to put a hat on every homeless head in Seattle. But what Anita really loved to do was play pinochle; so much so that she taught her children and grandchildren to play as soon as their hands were big enough to hold the cards. The people she played cards with over the years became some of her dearest friends. Anita is survived by her husband Ward A. Topolinski; children: Denise Adams, Thomas (Pam) Topolinski, Nola Topolinski, Vincent Topolinski, and Joseph Topolinski; her grandchildren: Ryan (Kim) Minor, Melanie (Jason) Denning, Mathew (Jessica) Adams and Alexander Adams; and great grandchildren: the Denning girls Camryn, Ellie, and Kyra; and Bella Minor and James Adams. Anita is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Robert Harrild, Richard Harrild, and Francis Harrild, and her son-in-law Paul Adams. Anita lived an astounding 19 months with end stage pancreatic cancer, which can be attributed to her grit and determination, her huge circle of amazingly supportive friends, and the excellent care of Dr. Ward and the nurses and staff at Swedish Cancer Center in Edmonds, WA. The family wishes to thank all who made the last year and a half of her life “the best ever”. Services will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church, Shoreline, WA, on Friday, February 1st, with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A private inurnment at Holyrood Cemetery will take place at a later date.
