Daniel J. Prospero, 76 of Englewood, Florida formerly of Vineland, New Jersey passed away July 7, 2009 at his home. Daniel was born February 1, 1933 in Vineland, New Jersey. At one time, Daniel was offered a tryout with the Brooklyn Dodgers, but instead of being drafted, he chose to volunteer to serve his country. Daniel spent four years in the US Navy as a trumpet player in the Navy band during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged. He was a professional trumpet player, but to better provide for his family he retired from music and became a policeman. Daniel spent 26 years as a member of the Vineland Police Department and retired in 1991as a Lieutenant. After retiring from the police force, he returned to playing the trumpet as a hobby and was at one time a member of four different Florida big bands simultaneously. He once played with the Harry Connick, Sr Band as well as Frank Sinatra’s Nelson Riddle Band when they were in Florida and were in need of a trumpet player. Daniel loved his family, trumpet & baseball. Daniel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Annie, daughter, Linda (Bob) Diorio of Vineland, New Jersey and son Michael Prospero of San Mateo, California.
