Peter James Gilmartin was born April 10, 1950 to Lucy M. and Peter Joseph Gilmartin in Jersey City, NJ. The family moved to Everett, WA in 1958 with Scott Paper Company. They later settled in Snohomish, WA. Pete attended Snohomish High School and Western Washington University, where he met his wife of 45 years, Linda. Pete began his love of golf at age 12 when he began playing golf with his father at Monroe Golf Course. His skill led him to participate on the golf teams in high school and college. He took a break from golf and raced motorcycles in the “café racer” class in Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association events in the mid-1970’s. There he got nicknamed by fellow riders and friends as “Gilmo.” Linda, by association, became “Mrs. Gilmo.” After an accident on the course, he decided to return to the much safer sport of golf; and sold is motorcycle and helmet, along with is red, white and blue racing leathers and boots. Pete joined Mill Creek Country Club in 1985 and became a charter member when the members purchased the club. He was very active in Men’s Golf as an officer and on committees, and was honored with a designation of “Lounge Pro” since he provided expert golf tips at the 19th hole. He was active in the Washington State Golf Association and the Washington State Senior Golf Association. After retirement he enjoyed spending Mondays as a volunteer working on grounds projects at the course. Pete worked in the motorcycle and automotive parts businesses for 40+ years. Before retirement he enjoyed 18 years at Doug’s Lynnwood Mazda/Hyundai/Cadillac as parts and service director. After retirement, Pete got to spend 4-1/2 months a year testing courses in Arizona, based out of their condo in Oro Valley, AZ. Pete loved many things. He honored and lived the tradition of golf, respect, doing the right thing when no one is looking, and camaraderie on the course and clubhouse. Pete was a social butterfly, telling stories, laughing and making sure no one felt left out. He loved his family and making family. Those related to him and those he made family with his love. He will remain forever in the stories, laughter and hearts of his wife, Linda, sister Sharon, nieces, nephews, and his many friends and golf community.
