Marcia passed away at home on Nov. 12th at 1:45am, in the arms of her husband Tom of 49 ½ years and surrounded by her loving children, Tricia, Jeff, and Joe. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Aug. 26th and had undergone 3 rounds of chemotherapy which proved ineffective. The cancer had spread to her liver, back & lungs, causing severe respiratory issues which finally overcame her. She died with dignity and pride, just like she lived her entire life. She never complained or showed any pain or emotion but stayed strong until the very end. She was a rock in the face of adversity trying to protect her family & friends. Marcia was born in Seattle on Dec. 10, 1947 to Ed & Gert Latschaw. They resided in North beach. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1966 and attended the University of Washington earning a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting along with her teaching certificate. She taught at Bothell High School (1972-79) & Edmonds Community College. Marcia waited patiently for 2 ½ years for Tom to return from Vietnam & get out of the Marine Corp so they could start their lives together. They were married June 20, 1970. They were blessed with their first child, Tricia 11/4/74, followed by Christopher (11/6/79-3/14/80), Jeff 10/26/82, and Joseph 12/23/83. Marcia became the bookkeeper and CFO of the family crab fishing business and was instrumental in creating the KBO fishing co-op which managed the deliveries of crab quotas to the processors. This was a full time job in itself. The group represented 26 boats originally and currently it has 75 members and controls about 25% of the crab resource in the Bering Sea. Marcia loved to travel, taking annual trips to Hawaii, Mexico, and Ohio along with 3 trips to Europe, and a memorable trip to Iceland this past May where she traced her roots and saw where her ancestors were from and met distant family relatives. Walking was her passion. She was planning a hiking trip to Japan in April. She usually walked 4 miles every morning, rain or shine, through Edmonds (before her husband even got out of bed). She was an avid reader; love stories and suspense novels were her favorite. She enjoyed going to the “Best of Broadway” productions at the Paramount, and attending Seahawk games as a season ticket holder since their inaugural season. She also loved spending her summers at Juanita Beach & Glen Cove (her childhood cabin) where she enjoyed boating and relaxing under her beach canopy with her latest book. Marcia was the Heart and Soul of our family and was always available to help & support anyone that needed it. She always had a positive attitude, a helpful caring nature, generous with her time and organized beyond belief. She taught us that material things don’t really matter, what is truly important is spending quality time with your family. She loved being a grandma and spending time with her 5 grandkids; Camron(12), Brooklyn(8), Kaitlyn(8), Nate(8) & Stella(6), as well as her 3 adult children Tricia (Scott), Jeff, and Joe (Kelli). Marcia had so much to live for and so much more to give. We are devastated that her life was cut short. She was an amazing wife, mom, grandma and friend, we were all blessed to have had her in our life, She will truly be missed! In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the American Cancer Society.
