L. James Whelan, age 83, of Venice, Florida, passed away on . He was born on in New Haven, Connecticut. He moved to Venice nine years ago from East Haven, Connecticut. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou; four sons, Leo of Branford, Connecticut, Tim of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Larry of Mahopac, New York, John of Wichita, Kansas and a sister, Lois Judge of Norwood, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Maura, Tim, Kaitlin and Kelsey. Funeral services and burial will be held in North Haven, Connecticut. Memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice & Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34238. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
