Lucille Irene Garrard passed away Friday, September 7, 2012, in Jackson at the age of 91. She was born in Moline, IL, on March 16, 1921, to Edwin and Edna (Plemons) Ball. Lucille was a junior-high school math teacher for 27 years and won the Valley Forge Peace and Freedom Teacher of the Year in 1970. After retiring from teaching, she became a doll sculptor and in 1983 was the president of UFDA, United Federation of Doll Artists. Lucille also enjoyed making baskets out of pine needles. She had many friends and attended Cornerstone Church in Ione. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Linda Rock and her husband, Don, of Jackson; sister, Georgia Price of La Habra, CA; grandchildren, Louanne Oppel (Matt), Lisa Howe (Philip), Amy Simonsen (Matt); 10 great-grandchildren; best friends, Karen Crabtree and Susan Hoage, whom she thought of as a daughter. Lucille was preceded by her husband, Clifton Edward Garrard in 1989 and son, Mark Edward Garrard in 1987. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Thursday, September 20, 2012, 2:00 PM at the Cornerstone Church in Ione. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Church, P.O. Box 304, Ione, CA 95640, or the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.danerimortuary.com and signing the guest book.
