Maxine Frances Cova

 Maxine Frances Cova, 90, of Ione, California, passed away peacefully at her home on August 11, 2026. She was a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and great grandmother. Maxine was born on August 3, 1936 in Russellville, Arkansas to Forest and Dorothy (More) Stacy, both of Kansas. Maxine moved to Ione with her family in 1947 where she attended school until graduating from Ione High School in 1954. Maxine worked various jobs which included helping run the Bed Bug Inn (later becoming the Ione Hotel), which her mother owned, from 1971 to 1977 until eventually working for the State of California until retirement. Maxine greatly enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy and thrifting.

 She was dedicated to her family and spent a great deal of her later years in life as a caretaker to her mother and brother whom she loved deeply. Her family was her passion and her loving and calming spirit made anyone who came in contact with her feel welcomed and seen.

 Maxine is survived by her devoted son, Curtis Tanner (Josette); granddaughters, Nicole Strongman (Jason), Kimberly Finch (Curtis) and Callie Tanner; 4 great grandchildren Ryan, Hailey, Cade, and Lucas and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Jeffrey Tanner, parents, Forest and Dorothy (More) Stacy, and brother, Jimmy Stacy.

 A graveside service will be held at the Ione Public Cemetery on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 9:30am. The family invites anyone who would like to attend.
