Daniel Yrungary Gonzalez

Jan 8, 1947 — Mar 13, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Daniel (Danny) Yrungary Gonzalez, (79) on March 13, 2026 surrounded by family.

Danny was born on January 8, 1947 to Elsie Fidelia Gonzales and Alfredo Gonzalez in Morenci, Arizona. Danny spent his early years in Morenci and moved to Tucson in 1962 where he graduated from Pueblo High School.  Following his graduation, he moved to Ely, Nevada and  later returned to Tucson after his service to our country, where he lived the remainder of his life.

Danny enlisted in the US Army in 1967].  He was assigned to the First Air Cavalry Division and served in Vietnam 1967 to 1968 where he was awarded the Army Commendation medal and other unit awards.  Following his enlistment, he worked in the mining industry as an equipment driver.

Danny’s physical health was complicated as a result of his exposure to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam.  This included cancer, congestive heart failure and kidney failure.  Despite his valiant effort in fighting these medical issues, he eventually succumbed to their cumulative effect.

In his younger years, Danny loved classic cars & rock & roll. He later enjoyed transforming his creative ideas through freehand sketching, crafting hiking sticks for family members and sharing days with his family, friends and dog Shorty.  Most people who knew Danny would say he was quiet and shy.  Despite this he developed true friendships and cherished those relationships with a lifelong embrace.

Danny is survived by his siblings and their spouses, David & Karen Gonzales, Olga & Stan Andrews, Ana Marie Regeser, Al Gonzales, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, Alfredo Gonzalez and his mother, Elsie Fidelia Gonzales.

Committal services and interment will be held at Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Marana, on Friday May 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., with military honors. A memorial celebration will follow, location TBD.
