Dietrich Hartmut Von Schmettow

Dietrich-Hartmut Von Schmettow died July 21, 2026 , in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born January 30, 1929, in Drehnow, Silesia formerly Germany, son of the late Gottfried Grf Von Schmettow and Marianne Freiin Von Blomberg. Survived by a sister Roswitha Holzmann-Grfn. Von Schmettow and husband Karl-Heinz, Marchbach, Germany. Niece Dr. Marianne Gfrn Von Schmettow, Bonn Germany and nephew Dr. Johannes Gfr Von Schmettow and wife Carola, Dusseldorf, Germany.

He attended Padago Dietrich-Hartmut Von Schmettow died July 21, 2026, at Lynchburg General Ho gium and Waisenhaus, Zullichau, Germany. He worked for many years in agriculture in Germany where he attended Hohere Landbauschule (Agriculture School), Nurtingen, Wurttemberg.

Dietrich-H came to this country in May 1956 as an immigrant and worked as a farm manger in the Forest VA area (10 years @Burnbrae Farms) and later 18 years for Montague-Betts, Company, Lynchburg, VA.

His life was filled with caring for others and hard work. May he rest in peace.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Forest Ruritan Club, UTC, TPA and Virginia Militia, ended as 1stLSGT, HAC20n 4BDC VADF.

Remains will be put to rest at the Columbarium during a private ceremony.
