James Edward Scearce

James Edward Scearce of Parkland, Washington, passed away on September 2nd, 2026 at the age of 90. Jim was born on July 18, 1936, in Tacoma, Washington, the child of Edward and Helen Scearce. He grew up along Spanaway Lake getting into mischief with his brothers. He worked briefly alongside his father in construction before eventually earning a degree in education. In a chance encounter on the ski slopes he met Donna Olson, which eventually led to 68 years of marriage and the welcoming of three children.

Jim had many passions, which included teaching, a deep love of our natural world, and adding birds to his Lifetime Audubon list. He faithfully attended and served the ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was employed by Franklin Pierce School District, most of which was at Parkland Grade School. He continued this love of teaching as an educator to fellow educators, offering field classes through Heritage Institute. He was well known for his recitations of Robert Service poems as well as telling eye rolling Sven and Ole jokes.

Jim was well loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Donna, children Kim (Ed) Cleveland, Kurt (Tricia) Scearce, Angela (Phillip) Aponte, grandchildren Peter (Tina), Rachel (Kevin Cain), Kaylin, Taylor, Rainer, and Miles, as well as great granddaughter Joni Cain
