In Loving Memory of Darrell Lee “Pete” Smith

04-03-1950 –10-21-2025

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Pete Smith, who went home to be with the Lord on 10-21-2025 at the age of 75.

Pete was a devoted husband to Kathy Voss for 32 years, the proud father of four children Lee Smith, Karie (Jim) Romano, Jennifer Buday and Lila Williams. A devoted grandfather to fifteen Darren Smith, Kyle Smith, Isabelle Powell, Olivia Bowmer, Adrianna Romano, Triston Smith, Andrew Romano, Alyssa Smith, Sandor Buday, Keira Smith, Julia Romano, Emmit Buday, Natalie O’Quin, Colin O’Quin & Wesley O’Quin, and a cherished great-grandfather to five Braylee Lewellen, Daxton Lewellen, Isolde Smith, Milo Tilleman & Braelynn McQuain. He was loving brother to Judy Osello and Becky (John) Toivonen and Favorite Uncle to many nieces and nephews. His family was his greatest joy, and he filled every gathering with laughter, warmth, and stories that will continue to live on in our hearts.

He spent many years working as an overhead crane operator at Boeing; a career he took great pride in until his well-earned retirement. Even after retirement, Pete never stopped working hard—he simply redirected his time and energy toward helping others. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Hospice House in University Place, WA. and an active member of New Community Church of Tacoma always offering a kind word, a helping hand, and a humble heart.

Those who knew Pete will remember his unwavering faith, his generosity, and his ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Whether he was telling a story from the old days, lending his tools to a neighbor, or sharing coffee and conversation at church, his presence was a gift to all.

He is preceded in death by his Grandson Triston Smith, Son Lee Smith, brothers Elijah “David” Smith, Ralph “Moe” Smith & Charles “Fid” Smith and parents Charles E. Smith & Jimmie Faye Smith and leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at New Community Church 3102 S. 23rd Street Tacoma, WA. 98405 on November 30, 2025, at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Franciscan Hospice House, 2901 Bridgeport Way W. University Place, WA.98466 in his memory.

Though we will miss him deeply, we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, surrounded by the everlasting love of God.
