Margaret Diana Hughey

Margaret Diana Hughey, lovingly known as Diana, was born on September 15, 1958, in Seguin, Texas, to Mark and Doris Carroll and passed away on February 6, 2025. She was the oldest of nine children and carried that role with strength, care, and quiet resilience throughout her life.

Diana spent part of her childhood living in an orphanage and at just 18 years old, with courage and determination, she flew to California to begin a new chapter. It was there that she met her husband, Roger, and together they built a life rooted in love and perseverance. Due to Roger’s work, they lived in many places over the years, including California, Missouri, Illinois, Mississippi, and Georgia, before she eventually settled back in Texas.

Together, Diana and Roger welcomed two children, Tyler James Hughey and Amber Marie Hughey, who were her pride and joy. She lived and breathed her children until they blessed her with six grandchildren, whom she loved more than anything in the world. Known affectionately as “Gooma,” Diana’s grandchildren were truly her life, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to them the best way she knew how.

Diana found joy in the simple things—watching hummingbirds, traveling, loving on her cats, and relaxing with ghost shows and Lifetime movies. She was always there for her children, but her heart belonged especially to her grandchildren. She showed love through her incredible cooking and was known as an even better baker, filling homes with warmth, comfort, and sweet memories.

A hard worker whenever her health allowed, Diana spent most of her working years with Hill Phoenix, where she was known as Hugley and was loved by everyone who knew her. Diana had a gentle soul and a giving heart. All she ever wanted was to love others and be loved in return—and she did just that.

Diana bravely battled several serious illnesses throughout her life and fought each one with strength, courage, and determination. All she wished for was to make it to her middle grandchildren Conner and Cheyanne’s graduation this May. She will be there with the best seat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Doris Carroll, stepfather Dave and brothers Danny and Michael Carroll.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Lee Hughey; her son, Tyler James Hughey of Covington, Georgia, and his fiancée, Danielle; her daughter, Amber Marie Contreras of Mansfield, Texas, and her husband, Christopher; and her cherished grandchildren: Ryleigh Elizabeth Heikkila Hall of White City, Oregon; Connor James Hughey of Covington, Georgia; Cheyanne Allyse Schugg of Mansfield, Texas; and Brooklyn Kate and Jackson Carter Hall of Mansfield, Texas; Brooks Hayes Contreras of Mansfield, Texas, and her siblings; Dale, Mary, Donald, Dennis, Denise, Mark and her aunt Lib as well as a host of other extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Her children and Grandchildren will carry out her wishes privately and encourage everyone to remember Diana every time you see a hummingbird.

Margaret Diana Hughey will be remembered for her unwavering love, her devotion to family, her fighting spirit, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of love will live on through her children, grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched.
