Elmer Eugene (Gene) Tillis

Elmer Eugene “Gene” Tillis, 94, of Englewood, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2026.

Gene was born on February 14, 1932, in Proctorville, Ohio, the youngest son of Bryan and Goldie Tillis. He graduated from Fairland High School and continued his education at Rio Grande, where he earned his undergraduate degree, and Marshall University, where he earned his master’s degree.

Gene devoted his career to education and retired as a school superintendent in Ohio. He later made Englewood his home and had been a resident of Charlotte County for 30 years, after moving from Frankfort, Ohio.

Gene is survived by Nancy Jean (Greg) Armstrong of Venice, Florida; Patrice Marie (Chuck) Miller of Maricopa, Arizona; Dwight Alan (Meg) Tillis of Pataskala, Ohio; and John Christopher Hineman Tillis of Englewood, Florida. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jill Armstrong of Columbus, Ohio; David Armstrong of Columbus, Ohio; Catherine (Willem) Krutilla of Athens, Ohio; and Grant Tillis of Pataskala, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hineman Tillis; his brothers, Dwight Tillis and John Tillis; and his sisters, Martha Boring and Osie McCarty.

In keeping with Gene’s wishes, there will be no service.
