Michael G Werner

Michael “Mike” G. Werner, 77, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on August 21, 2026.

Michael was born on October 16, 1948 in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Julius and Terezia Werner. Mike grew up on Community Street in north Lansing–the house was always busy with siblings, cousins, and neighborhood kids. Mike was a Vietnam Vet and when he returned home, he could often be found working on hot rods, playing pool, riding his Harley, bowling, playing euchre or casting a line at his favorite fishing spot. As time went on, his love for the open road and the outdoors evolved, and when he neared retirement from General Motors (Fisher Body), he traded his Harley for a comfortable Honda Goldwing. After retiring to Florida, Mike stayed active by starting a pool cleaning business, where his friendly spirit and knack for conversation earned him a wide circle of close friends. He was a true handyman who could fix just about anything, and he was always the first to lend a helping hand. Music was a constant in Mike's life whether he was out on the boat, working in the garage, or relaxing at home, his favorite artists–John Prine, Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffet, and The Eagles–playing in the background. Known for his sharp wit and quick humor, he always had a funny saying ready for any situation, bringing laughter to everyone around him. He loved spending time with family and friends, and had many stories to share.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Werner; his children, Toni (David) Brownfield, Paul (Rachel) Werner, and Amanda (Boni) Proper; his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ava, Claire, Benjamin, Grace, and Joshua; siblings Gary Werner, Wayne Werner, Lynn (Dick) Hunt, and Mary Ann Sproul; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Terezia Werner, and his sister, Janet Hopkins.

A celebration of life will be held on September 26 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Watertown Charter Township Gym, 12803 S. Wacousta Rd., Grand Ledge, MI 48837, with remarks at 1:30 pm and a light lunch to follow.
