On Tuesday October 20, 2026, Howard W. Brandt Jr. passed away peacefully in Gilbert, Arizona.

Born on Pittsburgh’s South Side on February 24, 1937, he was the son of the late Howard and Sophia (Proskey) Brandt. A 1954 graduate of St. Michael’s High School on Pittsburgh’s ‘Sath Side Slopes’, he married his loving wife Marie “Theresa” (Hayweiser) Brandt on February 23, 1957. After proudly serving with the U.S. Navy, he began a long career as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, where he retired in 2005. Howard and Theresa lived most of their lives in Pittsburgh and remained ‘Pittsburgh kids’ at heart, even after they moved to Gilbert in 2016. They remained together until her passing in April 2023.

Whether you knew him as Howie, Uncle June, or ‘Pap’, he will forever be remembered for his selfless and outgoing nature by anybody he met, and for his love of telling stories.

He is survived by their six children; John (Birgit) Brandt of Pittsburgh PA, Joseph (Becky) Brandt of Pittsburgh PA, Junemarie Brandt of Colora MD, Janice (Keith) Edwards of Gilbert AZ, James (Kari Castillo) Brandt of Gilbert AZ, and Jennifer (John) Civettini of Gilbert AZ; his sister Judi (Jim) Erick of Lake Havasu AZ; ten grandchildren – Sophia, Jonah, Annie, April, Tedd, Bethany, William, Aubrey, Sterling, and Giancarlo; two great-grandchildren, AJ and Alex; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Theresa and his parents, he was predeceased by eight siblings.

There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 440 E Elliot Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85234.

Final arrangements are being handled by Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ 85233.

There will also be a memorial Mass in Pittsburgh PA, which will be announced at a later date.
