Alexander Geddes Ege

Alexander Geddes Ege passed away on May 29, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born on September 25, 1918 in Newark, N. J. to Karl and Ethel Geddes Ege. He grew up in the Jersey City area, moved to Packanack Lake in 1956 with his family and retired to Venice, Florida in 1984. He was very active in the Hudson County, NJ Boy Scouts of America and eventually became a professional Scout Executive, first in Hudson County and then in East Orange. During this time he spent the summers as a director of Kamp Henry Kohl which was located within High Point State Park in Sussex. He then became a salesman for Brooks Brother’s in their Main store at Madison Ave. and 44th St in New York City. A member of the Brooks Quarter Century Club, he retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was an active member of the Packanack Lake Community Church and the Boy Scouts of America before retiring to Florida where he was a member of the Venice United Church of Christ and a longtime volunteer at the Venice Library. He was married to the love of his life, Jeanne Smith Ege for 61 years until her death in 2008. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Jeanne Guzman, his son-in-law Orlando Guzman, his beloved granddaughter Alexandra Guzman, his son Alexander Geddess Ege, Jr. and his son’s partner Jose Luis Rodriguez. He is also survived by his brother Karl Ege and several nephews. His brother John Donald Ege and his twin brother Frederick Stewart Ege, Sr. predeceased him.
