Anne Barnett
October 4, 1923 – November 1, 2015
Anne Barnett passed away November 1, 2015 from heart complications. She was born Arna Sofie Haslestad on the island township of Lyngor, Norway, to Kristian and Signe Haslestad on October 4, 1923.
She, together with her mother, older brother Yngvar and younger brother Ole Peder arrived in Elizabeth, NJ, in 1930 and were meet by their father, Kristian, who had proceeded them and established his US citizenship.
Anne married Joe Barnett in 1962 and they lived in numerous places from Chicago to Singapore before retiring to Venice, FL in 1980. She became an avid skier and tennis player who, because of her petite frame and youthful looks, was often asked for an ID well into her 60s. While she had no children of her own, she enjoyed being “Tante Arna” to her nieces and nephew.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Kristian and Signe (Hubertz) Haslestad; her husband, Joseph William Barnett; and her brother, Yngvar Haslestad.
She is survived by her devoted brother Ole Peder Haslestad of Seattle, WA; four nieces, Randi Haslestad, Karen O'Sullivan, Judi Oley and Kristine Burns and one nephew, William Peder Haslestad.
Memorial gifts may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Arrangements are being handled by Farley Funeral Home, Venice (FarleyFuneralHome.com). Services will be private.
