Anthony Albert Cairo Sr.
Oct 20, 1929 — Oct 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) A. Cairo, Sr. a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Anthony was born on October 20, 1929, in Chicago, IL, to James Vincent and Kate Cairo. He departed this life peacefully on October 11, 2026, just shy of his 97th birthday.
Anthony was a devoted son, brother, and family man. He was predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia A. Cairo, his brother James A. Cairo, and his sister Carmella Cairo.
He leaves behind his loving spouse, Kitty Horne-Cairo, with whom he shared two decades of marriage and companionship. Kitty and Anthony had a true partnership. Their biggest joy in life was being kind to others, embracing everyone they met along their journey, and living life to the fullest.
Anthony is survived by his children, Sue (John) Kiesewetter; Patty Novak; Karen (Scott) Taylor; Anthony Jr. (Jean) Cairo; Michael (Patrice) Cairo; as well as a legacy of grandchildren; Jay (Lisa), Joseph, David Kiesewetter; Paul (Carlie), Laura (Andrew Thompson) Novak; Anthony III (Samantha), Patrick (Stephanie), Melissa, Michael Jr., Matthew (Erika), Nicholas (Dani Young) Cairo; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Evan, Elliana Kiesewetter; Anthony IV, Jacob, Ryan, Zachary, Jordan, and Avery Cairo; his dear sister-in-law, Gail Earley; and numerous loving nieces and nephews; who will all remember him with love.
A proud veteran, Anthony served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His service to his nation was a source of pride that he carried throughout his life.
After his military service, Anthony embarked on a successful career at Beneficial Management Corporation starting in Chicago, IL, through Columbus OH and Morristown NJ, eventually retiring as an executive in 1987 in Peapack NJ. He was instrumental in developing and introducing private-label credit card services during the 1970s and 1980s, an achievement that marked a significant milestone in his professional journey.
Anthony's commitment to his community was evident in his longstanding role as President of the Legends Homeowners Association within the PGA community in Palm Beach Gardens Florida, where he relocated after retirement. He was an avid golfer and a passionate card player, known for his enthusiasm for cars and driving.
Anthony's enduring legacy is one of warmth, humor, infectious energy, quick wit, and unyielding support for those he loved. Dad, Pops, Grandpa, Poppo, and Great-grandpa were all words most endeared by him. Nothing was more important to him then his large and loving family, who were his pride and joy.
He had an incredible ability to simplify complex issues, providing guidance and advice that was both practical and profound. His mantra, "Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff" was a testament to his optimistic outlook on life.
As we bid farewell, we carry with us Anthony's favorite saying, "What a country, America!"—a reflection of his gratitude and love for the life he lived. Anthony will be dearly missed but never forgotten. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In honor of Anthony's life and spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
