Barbara Louise Stevens

Barbara Louise (Cope) Stevens was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 6, 1923 where she lived until she met David Stevens in 1943. After marrying David, and after the War, they lived in Washington, D.C. for a short time, then moved to Oak Park, Michigan and then Troy, Michigan when David took a job transfer in the early 1950's. In the early 1970's they relocated to a small farm property in Hadley, Michigan and lived there until 1999 when they then made their final move to Venice, Florida, as David became ill and was moved into an assisted living facility. Barbara lost her mobility a few years later and became a resident of Harbor Chase of Venice, an assisted living community. Barbara was active in the Hadley Community Church in Michigan for many years as a committee member and Sunday school teacher. She loved her homes in Michigan and spent many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was an avid artist/painter and created beautiful landscapes for family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and loved the holidays with family gathered around the table. She was a loving mother and grandmother and put family first always. She is survived by daughter Gale Woods of Marine City, MI; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Don Hadley of Zebulon, NC; daughter Lynne Peter of Venice, FL and grandchildren Robert Beyer of Seattle, WA; Noel and Tiffany Clason and family of Davisburg, MI; Joseph and Holly Woods and family of Stanwood, WA; David and Ashley Fisher and family of Winter Haven, FL and Rebecca Fisher and husband Glen Baker of Wesley Chapel, FL An intimate family memorial will be held at the Hadley cemetery in Hadley, Michigan where she will be buried alongside her beloved David. Memorial contributions are welcome at the local Florida hospice that took such good care of her in her final days: Tidewell Hospice of Southwest Florida, Philanthropy Dept., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34238.
