Betty Walkup Albright, 87, passed away Sept. 30, 2016. She was born in Holder, FL Feb. 6, 1929. She was raised in Dunnellon, FL and was a true ""Florida Cracker"" who could trace her family in Florida to before the Civil War and took great pride in her southern roots. She received her Bachelor's degree from FSU and her Master's from U of F. She taught school in Marion Co. before moving to Venice in 1969. There she taught for one year before retiring to start Little John Portable Toilets with her husband Clark Walkup. She and Clark enjoyed Antique cars and clothes as well as RV trips throughout the US and Canada and summers in Highlands, NC. She and Clark were married for 41 years before his death in 1993.
She married Richard Albright in 1996. They continued to have their primary residence in Venice and summer in Highlands where Betty enjoyed entertaining friends and family, quilting, and volunteering at Fibber McGee's Thrift Store. She was a member of the Community Bible Church in Highlands and attended Covenant Presbyterian when in FL.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Albright; her children Ross Walkup (Susan); Betty Babb (Buddy); David Walkup; Clay Walkup (Darin); grandchildren Adam Walkup (Jamie); Brian Walkup (Tracy); Kathy Boykin (Brian)and great grandchildren Clark Walkup; Brady Boykin and Kate Boykin.
A graveside service will be held at the McIntosh Community Cemetery in McIntosh, FL on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238 or Community Bible Church, Benevolence Fund, PO Box 2916 Highlands, NC 28741.
