Charlene Sue Brecht

Charlene Sue Brecht, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went home to Jesus peacefully on August 6, 2026 in Venice, Florida. Her family will miss her big presence in their lives but rejoice knowing she is at peace and resting as the good and faithful servant she was. 

Charlene was born the youngest of two children to Glee and Nellie Rikard in Belmore, Ohio on March 19, 1937. Charlene and her brother, Richard, grew up in Leipsic, Ohio with their parents where they spent their early years living and working on the family farm. 

Charlene met her husband Ken at Leipsic High School where they both attended school. They married on June 3, 1956 in Belmore, Ohio. Charlene and Ken settled in Weston, Ohio building their first home and raising their three girls, Rhonda, Cheryl and Michele. Ken preceded Charlene in death, passing on February 12, 2024.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Charlene created a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and memories. Charlene worked by Ken’s side, building two thriving businesses: Lawndale Mobile Home Plaza and Weston Poultry Farm. Charlene found great joy in the beauty of flowers and was a devoted member of her local garden club. She was also a talented artist who enjoyed china painting. Her creativity and appreciation for beauty brought warmth and joy to those around her.

Charlene, an avid sports fan, was a die hard Otsego High School supporter attending her girls’ and grandsons’ sporting events. For 10 years, Charlene and Ken were Bowling Green State University basketball season ticket holders. On Saturday afternoons in the fall, you would find Charlene cheering on her beloved Ohio State Buckeye’s football team.

Charlene and Ken called Ohio their home for over 60 years. In 2004, they escaped the cold Midwest weather retiring to sunny Venice, Florida. They continued their love of travel exploring places like New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the Caribbean and several European countries. 

In the later years, Charlene spent quiet days at home in Venice with Ken, meeting up for dinner with friends, watching sunsets at the beach, and attending church services at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Every morning without fail, she and Ken would have breakfast at their favorite spot, Peach’s Restaurant, where she would order “The #3”: scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon with a side of toast and a cup of coffee. 

Charlene’s memory will continue through her three girls, Rhonda Hanson of Angola, Indiana,Cheryl Asmus (Jim) of Haskins, Ohio, and Michele Adams (Philippe) of Raleigh, North Carolina;her seven grandsons, and eleven great-grandchildren.
