Dennis James "Jim" Armstrong

Oct 22, 1947 — Aug 13, 2026

Dennis James “Jim” Armstrong was born on October 22, 1947, in Toronto, Canada, the second of three children of Wilma Audrey Armstrong (néeGoodison) and Rev. Clarence Alvin Armstrong, passed away in Venice, Florida on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ann Armstrong (née McCracken).

Jim was the loving brother of Richard Armstrong (Lois Hu􀆯) and Judy Hamende (Larry); father of Sheri Cantle (Ian), Robert Armstrong (Jenna Halverson), and David Armstrong (Klára Jampílkova); and grandfather of Emma Goss (Cameron), Naomi Cantle, Declan Armstrong, Asher Armstrong, Audrey Armstrong, and Sydney Armstrong.

Though often reserved, Jim taught by example, living a life of kindness, forgiveness, patience and honesty. His natural gift for numbers, combined with a strong work ethic and attention to detail led to a successful 45-year career at CIBC. Whether at work or around the house, he approached every project with persistence. In quiet moments, Jim enjoyed reading a good book. Throughout his life, he loved being near the water, from boating on the lakes of Ontario to living along the coasts of Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and South Florida. In retirement, he and Ann enjoyed golf and international travel. Jim passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep, with Ann at his side.

Donations may be made “in honor of Jim Armstrong” at PPWA Foundation Inc. - Donations - Pelican Pointe Women’s Association. The PPWA Foundation provides scholarships to high school seniors entering college and to current college students (past recipients of PPWA scholarships), to help with the cost of tuition and college expenses. Depending on the amount of contributions received, the family in collaboration with the PPWA seeks to provide an individual scholarship in Jim's name and direct that to a student athlete, preferably a golfer.
