Donald A. Davis, Sr., at age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2018. He was born November 16, 1925 in St. Louis, MO where he lived until 1944 when, as a student, he left Missouri Central College to join the Navy. The Navy eventually sent him to school at the University of Louisville where he earned his BA. He received his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University.
Having worked for over 35 years for General Electric at Appliance Park in Louisville, he retired as the Manager of Equipment Development Operations.
While at U of L, Don met and was married to the late Martha Diebold Davis for 63 years. Don and Martha retired to The Plantation Golf and Country Club of Venice in 1982. Don was very active in the development and management of the Club and the PMI and served as President. He was an avid tennis player, pickle ball player and bocci ball fan. Don had a passion for riding his bicycle. Don was a strong Christian whose faith was important to him and he especially loved singing church hymns.
Don is survived by his daughter Barbara D. Graas (Robert) of Louisville, KY and daughter-in-law Barbara Davis of Venice. His son, Donald A. Davis, Jr. predeceased him. He is also survived by his sister Susan D Shepard and nephews David Shepard and Larry Shepard of St. Louis, MO, and his very special friend, Joan Moran of Venice, FL.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Venice. A memorial service will be held at the church on Friday, May 4th at 10:30 am. A memorial service later in May is planned for this final resting place in Louisville's Cave Hill Cemetery.
