Doris I. Long
Jan 17, 1923 — Mar 10, 2014
Doris Irene Kurtz Long , aged 91, passed away on March 10, 2014, in her sleep, after a long battle with COPD and other related complications. She has gone to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and to rejoin her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Paul W. Long, who passed away in 1995. She is survived by daughters Linda Long Walter of Loudon, TN and Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Carol Irene Long of Venice, and Louisa Rose Long Perkin of Fairview, NC; son David Paul Long of Venice; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and two nieces who mourn her passing and will miss her terribly.
Doris Long loved her family above all else and she loved her home and her roots. Born in Detroit, she moved to Grosse Pointe and graduated from Grosse Pointe (South) High School in 1941. She made her home in that area until 1974 when she and Paul and family moved to St. Clair, MI. In 1986 they made the move to Venice, FL. and became true Floridians. She loved the flora and fauna and all the fragile beauty of Florida. She loved all sorts of crafts from ceramics to crewel work. She was a member of the Jacaranda Golf and Country Club for more than 26 years where she made so many great friends. She was a golfer, bridge player, bowler, gardener, traveler and great friend to all who knew her.
Doris also loved her two cats. She became a great advocate of stray and rescue cats and supported the St Francis Cat House in Venice .
Services to celebrate her wonderful life will be held on Saturday, March 15 at the Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice, at 11:00am. A reception will be held following the service at Venetian Gardens, 1450 E. Venice Blvd in Venice.
