Dorothy Ann Obeid

November 28, 1931 — May 10, 2026

Dorothy Ann Saba Obeid, 94, died on May 10, 2026. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on November 28, 1931, the daughter of William John Saba and Marie Vaughan Hathorn Saba, the middle of seven children. She graduated from Meyers High School in 1949 and married Robert Mitry Obeid in 1951. They moved, along with their first four children, to Gainesville, FL, in 1958, where her husband attended pharmacy school, then settled in Sarasota, FL, in 1960.

She loved the beauty of the mountains and her trips out West to Montana and western Carolina, as well as the many trips to Pennsylvania in summertime to visit her mother, sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews. She loved to cook, bake, and decorate the house, especially at Christmastime, and going to Ringling School of Art in years past to look at and buy the student artwork. She made quilts for all her children with blocks featuring their favorite things: the mountains, beach, rabbits, guitar, poetry, piano, camera, stethoscope, violin, hiking, horses, easel, basset hound, and the house they all grew up in. She loved to read, especially mysteries, and in her later years did cryptogram puzzles and watch TV game shows. She waited every day for the deer to run through the backyard or for the red-shouldered hawk to land on the corner of the pool cage, where she could sit and watch him from her chair. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She was all things good and kind, cared deeply about the suffering of others, and will forever be loved and missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Obeid; father, William Saba; mother, Marie Saba; daughters Renee Knadle (Wes) and Sharon Willman (Bob); sisters Connie Oliver (Larry), Peggy Malta (Eddie), Lillian McManus (Jack), and brothers John Saba (Dee) and Robert Saba (Elaine), all of Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her children, Robert J. Obeid, MD, (Carol) of Bakersville, NC, Rick Obeid of MI and FL, Pam Obeid of Sarasota, and Michael Obeid of Sarasota; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; sister Carol Hershey (Larry) of NC.

There will be no services at this time.
