Duane Burrows
Dec 14, 1954 — Nov 29, 2011
Duane “Dewey” Burrows, 56, took his last breath on Earth and his first breath in Heaven on November 29, 2011. He was surrounded by family and friends in Bradenton, FL who he had touched throughout his remarkable life.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday at 2pm at the Bahia Vista Mennonite Church in Sarasota, FL. A private burial will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens.
Duane was born on December 14, 1954 in Utica, NY and grew up in the nearby town of Clinton. There he was active in the 4-H and played ice hockey.
Duane and his wife raised their family in Venice, FL where they lived for nearly 30 years. He was an active member of the church, a prominent part of the community, and ran a successful business, D. Burrows Trucking, with his father.
Duane’s biggest passions in life were racing and car restoration. Most recently, Duane had the privilege of being part of Ronnie Sanders/Bubba Pollard’s race team in Georgia where Duane and his wife lived for the past six years. Duane was loved and admired by a multitude of family and friends and is smiling down from heaven while driving his #14 racecar.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Jean, his two children Callie and Chad, his parents Douglas Sr. and Mary Burrows and three sisters Sheila Mursch, Debbie Taylor and Patricia Foley. He was predeceased by a brother Douglas Jr.
Duane believed in financially assisting missionaries spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and in lieu of flowers the family has asked that all monetary donations be made to:
Duane Burrows Memorial Fund
Capital Bank
1099 N. Tamiami Trail
Nokomis, FL 34275
These donations will be used to support Christian missionaries located in Turkey, Iraq and Israel.
Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
