Emily Melson

Emily Collins Melson, 87, of Venice, Florida, died on April 18, 2017. Emily was born in Port Huron, Michigan on September 22, 1929. She graduated from Port Huron high school in 1947 and received a B.A. In Psychology from Kalamazoo College in 1952. Emily married in 1952 and lived in and around Chicago, Illinois before moving to Venice in 1984. Emily is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Wally Melson, her son David (Anne) of Richmond, Virginia, and three grandchildren: Emily (Will) Halliday, Jack, and Katherine. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Buchanan of Louisville, Kentucky and was predeceased by her brother Robert Collins. Emily loved to play the piano and bridge, which she enjoyed for almost her entire life, and to play golf. She was a member of Jacaranda West Country Club for over 30 years. She was extraordinarily kind and accepting and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Emily requested that there be no service to commemorate her passing.
