Erica Crawford

d. Apr 16, 2018

Erica Crawford, aged 85, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Venice, Florida. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a loving friend to many. Erica was born on December 31, 1932 to Antonio and Rosa (Hecht) Huebner. She grew up on the Lake of Lugano in Switzerland, where she spoke German at home and Italian at school. At the young age of 13, she left home to work in the French and German parts of Switzerland. In 1958, she moved to England to learn English and work as an ""au pair"". Erica's wandering spirit took her to the United States in 1960, where she worked as a private cook for a family on Long Island. This is where her great love story began. Erica married Ferdon (Don) Crawford of Elroy, Wisconsin in 1962 in the small Swiss village of Bissone. They were happily married for 55 years. They lived together in State College, Pennsylvania, where their three children were born. Erica became a US citizen in 1965. In 1975, they moved to Elkhart, Indiana, where Erica was an active member of St John's Episcopal Church. Erica was an amazing cook! She took pride in every dish she prepared for her family, friends and often an entire church full of people. She loved entertaining and traveling. In the year 2000, Erica and Don retired and moved to Bahia Vista Gulf in Venice, Florida. During their retirement Erica and Don enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia to visit family. They also loved going on cruises with their close group of friends. She was a member of St Mark's Episcopal Church and an active bridge player. Erica loved her life in Venice enjoying sunset cocktails by the beach and her many friends. Erica is survived by her husband Don Crawford; her sons Tony (Pedge) Crawford of Missoula, Montana, Steve (Colleen) Crawford of Elkhart, Indiana, daughter Heidy (David) Taylor of Fulshear, Texas, her brother Bruno (Dolores) Huebner of Lugano, Switzerland, her grandchildren Nathan, Samuel, Jordan, Brittany, Jessica, Tiffany, Ashlee and Brandon, and her great-grandchildren Tyler, Trinity, Malik, Phoenix and Jade.
