Evelyn P. Chassar (also Csaszar, Csasar), age 98, wife of the late Stephen F. Chassar (predeceased 1989) passed away on January 25, 2016 in Sarasota, Fl. Affectionately known as Ev, she was born in Norristown, PA on November 9, 1917 to Clarence and Emma Strouse. She attended Norristown HS playing on the girls basketball team. She was an excellent athlete competing in both local singles and pairs skating events. After graduation she held various jobs until meeting and marrying her husband, Steve. As a homemaker, she enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, canning produce, and quilting. During WW II, she worked at Bethlehem Steel to help the country and company while the boys served overseas. In 2008, she and other ""Rosies"" received a ""Rosie the Riveter"" award and commendation from PA Governor Ed Rendell for outstanding service during time of national need. Ev was one of eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by brothers: Gerald Strouse of Winter Haven, FL and Richard Strouse of Norristown, PA, her daughters: Jill A. Kovacs and husband James of Louisville, KY, Stephanie C. Robertson and husband James H. of Osprey, FL and Bethlehem, PA, her grandsons: James S. Robertson and wife Candace of Ewing, NJ, Timothy W. Robertson and wife Tierney Kelley of New Orleans, LA, William J. Robertson and wife Tracy of Pottstown, PA and her beloved great grandchildren: Violet, Sasha, Maxwell, Kiri, and James C. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota, FL.
