George Wesley "Wes" Griffin

George Wesley “Wes” Griffin Jr., of Venice, was called home on July 29, 2026, passing peacefully with his wife by his side.

Wes was born on January 9, 1941, in South Portland, Maine, to George Wesley Griffin and Clara (Clapp) Griffin. He grew up in Readville, Massachusetts, and graduated from Hyde Park High School, Class of 1959. After school, he went on to work at Finesse Labs as a dental lab technician.

He met the love of his life, Sheila, in 1963, and they were married in 1970 in Wellesley, Massachusetts. They enjoyed many years in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, making lifetime memories. They began their journey to Florida as snowbirds in 2009 and moved full time in 2022 after Wes’s retirement in 2013.

Throughout their lives together, Wes and Sheila enjoyed traveling and cruising to many countries throughout Europe. Rooted in faith, beginning in Massachusetts at New Life Christian Center, Wes enjoyed listening to gospel music. With a calm demeanor and a spirit that never seemed to be fazed, he also enjoyed watching old movies.

Wes leaves behind his loving wife of more than 50 years, Sheila; three nephews, Stephen (Stacy) Wagner of Mason, Ohio, Scott (Faith) Wagner of Taunton, Massachusetts, and Shawn Wagner of Quincy, Massachusetts; and two nieces, Melody Rose (Roy) Mofford and Carol McKeen, both of New Brunswick, Canada, his Sister in law Sandra Micelotta of Venice Fl. He will be dearly missed by great nieces and great nephews as well as many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; his two sisters, Judy Cook and Esther Griffin; and his niece, Merridy Ann (Thomas) Pelkey.

Services will be held in Cranston, Rhode Island on September 27th with a burial on September 30th in New Brunswick, Canada. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wes’s name to Tidewell Hospice.
