Gerald T. Gaida, 80, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Known as Gerry to family and friends, he devoted his life to caring for his family, serving his community, and helping others. He always strove to provide the best for those he loved.

Gerry served with distinction in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and continued his military service in the Army Reserve, completing more than 30 years of service. He also devoted more than 35 years to law enforcement, first as a detective with the Franklin Park, Illinois Police Department and later as a special agent with the Illinois Department of Revenue.

An avid car enthusiast and gun collector, Gerry took special pleasure in sharing those interests with his sons and grandchildren.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Teresa Gaida; his son Jeff Gaida and daughter-in-law Holly, and their children, Abbey and Zach; his son Ron Gaida and daughter-in-law Jenifer, and their children, Emma and Charlie; and his son Dave Gaida and daughter-in-law Heather, and their son, Evan; stepdaughter Shana Shults and son-in-law Steve.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazelle Wilson; his stepfather, John Wilson; his father, Theodore Gaida; his sisters, Patricia Bender, and Rita Myers; and his former wives, Sharon and Michelle.

A service for Gerry will be held at the pavilion at Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
