Sep 20, 1952 — Jul 29, 2026

Gregory "Rusty" Wilson Theroux, of Nokomis, Florida, passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 73.

Born on September 20, 1952, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Greg spent much of his life serving his community and his country. He moved to Nokomis, Florida, in 2015 from Peterborough, New Hampshire.

Greg began his career in the 1980s working in sales at his family's furniture store. He later dedicated more than 20 years to public service as a corrections officer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, rising to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 2011. Continuing his commitment to serving others, he joined the Peterborough Police Department, where he served as a police officer from 2013 to 2015.

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Greg served from 1971 to 1974. During his military service, he earned the Rifle Marksman Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the American Legion and was raised as a Master Mason in March 2011 through Altemont Lodge in Peterborough, New Hampshire.

Greg and Laurie traveled the Eastern U.S. in their RV for 9 months in 2019 then to the mid US visiting Yellowstone in 2021 for one month. They also cruised Hawaii, Alaska and Caribbean. Greg was also a Harley enthusiast.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie (Tucker) Theroux; his stepdaughter, Cheryl Bolton, her husband, Phil, and their daughters, Cadence and Bella, of Ayer, Massachusetts; his stepson, Michael Ernst, his wife, Maria, and their son, Joshua, of Leominster, Massachusetts; and his sister-in-law, Leeann Russo, and her husband, Bert, of Brimfield, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews in Massachusetts and Ohio. Although adopted, Greg was grateful to have found his half-brothers and half-sisters in 2021, creating meaningful family connections later in life.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Viola F. Theroux, and his father, Wilson C. Theroux.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, 12902 Magnolia Drive, MBC-FOU, Tampa, Florida 33612.

Greg will be remembered for his dedication to family, his years of public service, his love of country, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
