Gunther Kern

Gunther Kern passed peacefully on Friday October 30th at Harbor Chase where he had been lovingly cared for by the staff there for the past few years. He was born on January 31, 1924 in Rotenburg, Germany and came to America in 1954, leaving his wife Ilse and son Frankie to come later that year. Despite a rough start they went on to create a successful life in Hartford and Guilford, CT and then in Nokomis, FL. They became very involved in the Sarasota Opera and Gunther continued that support the rest of his life. Gunther was preceded in death by his son and, in later years, by his wife. Gunther was kind, generous, caring man. A gentleman and a gentle man. Although he leaves no family he has left many good friends who will miss him dearly.
