Harold Ray Roof

Harold Ray Roof, 81, of Nokomis, FL went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2015. He was born in Lima, OH to Vinton H. and Mable C. Howbert Roof, and moved to Nokomis in 1996. Ray graduated from Shawnee High School in Lima, OH, and he served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the 772nd Military Police Battalion. He retired in 1988 in property management at the Lima Army Tank Plant where he helped manufacture the M1 battle tank. Ray was a member of the Venice Church of the Nazarene and the Bay Lakes Association. He enjoyed gospel music, cruising, traveling, his church, and being with his family and friends. Preceded in death by his brothers Richard and Thomas, Ray is survived by his loving wife Mary Ruth Champ, whom he married on December 19, 1959 in Spencerville, OH. He is also survived by his children William Roof of Belle Center, OH, Thomas R. (Kimberly) Roof of Lima, Peru, and Teresa (James) Tilson of Nokomis, FL, grandchildren Drew and Morgan Tilson of Nokomis, FL, Daniel and Charity Roof of Lima, Peru, and Elizabeth Roof of Tiffin, OH, brother Franklin (Patty) Roof of Kenton, OH, sister Jeanie (Richard) Kile of Beavercreek, OH, and sisters-in-law Sally and Sharon Roof of OH. Friends may call from 2:00 until 4:00pm and 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 11th at the funeral home. Ray's life will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Thursday, March 12th at Venice Church of the Nazarene, followed by interment with military honors in Sarasota National Cemetery.
