Irene Victoria Sarkissian, 99, long time resident of Venice, FL for twenty three years, devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away peacefully on October 17, 2014. Irene was born March 15, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan to Rose (Kurkowski) and Frank Smith. Irene was an avid reader. She was an inspiration to her family, friends and acquaintances. Irene loved music, dancing and family get-togethers. Irene was preceded in death by her two sisters: Vickie Westland and Wanda Davey; daughter, Marguerite ""Margie"" Hayden, son-in-law, Larry Hayden and son-in-law, Frank Kopernik. Survivors include her beloved husband of 59 years of marriage; children: Constance ""Connie"" Kopernik; 7 grandchildren: Mark (Connie) Hayden, Robbie (Teri) Hayden, Greg (Lisa) Hayden, Sean (Jackie) Hayden, Bob Kopernik, Roger (Maryann) Kopernik, Diane (Paul) Cusumano; 11 great grandchildren: Loran, Ethan, Jennifer, Carly, Jason, Livia, Gracie, Stephanie, Carolyn, Melanie, Christopher (Chasity) and 2 great great grandchildren: Andrew and Jenna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, October 23rd at Epiphany Cathedral with inurnment immediately following at the Epiphany Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
