James J. Cicchetti

James J. Cicchetti, age 84, of North Venice, Florida, passed away on January 10, 2012. He was born in Queens, New York on August 16, 1927 to the late Elaine and Angelo Cicchetti. James graduated from Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York at age 16 where he was a music major playing in the orchestra and in a 6 piece dance band on weekends. He graduated from St. John’s University in 1949. He served 18 months in Korea attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was employed by the Insurance Company of North America as Safety Specialist. He left to become Safety Director for Phoenix of London in NYC and Safety Director for Commercial Union Insurance Company. He then joined Borden as Insurance and Safety Manager for the Foods Division. He moved up and was promoted to Corporate Safety Manager and later Risk Manager. He was very active in local and national chapters of the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMSD) heading several committees and coordinating seminars at annual conventions. Jim met Ann at INA and was married in 1957. They were the proud parents of Jim and Janet. Jim was very active in the PTA, Boy Scouts, Indian Princess and was on the school board at St. Andrew’s in Upper Arlington, Ohio. He was a member of the Hoover Yacht Club where he sailed one-design racing sailboats. After retirement, Ann & Jim moved to Lanoka Harbor, NJ where they enjoyed their waterfront home on Barnegat Bay. In 2004 Ann & Jim purchased a villa in the Venetian Golf & River Club. They were privileged to have many friends and spent many happy years enjoying the Florida lifestyle. Jim is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Jimmy & Janet; a son-in-law, Jeff; a brother, Robert Cicchetti of Middle Island, New York; two grandchildren, Jessica, Michael and many relatives, nieces, nephews and close friends. A visitation will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 2:00-4:00PM with a Scripture Service at 3:30PM. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Sarasota National Cemetery. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
