James "Jim" Richard Meyers
Jun 27, 1948 — Jun 27, 2026
James Richard Meyers, known as Jim, of Venice, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 27, 2026. He was born on June 27, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, to Bertha Apsell and Richard Thomas Meyers.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 25 years of his career to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). He spent much of his life in Staten Island, New York, before retiring to Venice, Florida, in 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Berardino; and his nephew, Gerard Berardino.
Jim is survived by his nephew, James R. Berardino and his wife, Christine, of Tampa, Florida; his niece, Joan Berardino of Brooksville, Florida; his niece, Laurie Schuh and her husband, Jason, of Burlington, Kentucky; as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, and second cousins.
A devoted animal lover, Jim found great joy in the companionship of his beloved dogs—Princess, Spud, Ozzy, and Poncho. He loved to travel and enjoyed taking walks. He was also a fan of Broadway musicals, as well as vampire, western, and horror films. He will be remembered for his military service, generosity to charitable causes, devotion to family, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
Jim will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida, with honors due to a veteran who faithfully served his nation at 11:00 Am on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
