James Liard

James ""Jim"" Liard passed away in the arms of his family after a hard fought battle with cancer at his home in Venice on February 10th, 2018. Jim was born on April 4th, 1942 in Woonsocket, RI and was the son of Gloria Liard and the late James E. Liard. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeannette Liard and son James (Debbie) Liard. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Ethan Liard and Heather Liard, and siblings Gail Dubeau, Judith (Gary) Trottier, Michael (Dianne) Liard, Ruth (Randall) Joyce, Richard Liard, Patricia Ellis, Robert (Elizabeth) Liard, Kathleen Liard, John Liard, Tina (Ray) Wulf, and the late Susan Guillet, Joan Marois, Mark Liard, and Jane McCaffrey. Jim raised his family in Woonsocket, RI where he worked as a Lineman for New England Telephone Co. for 30 years. Upon retirement, Jim moved to Venice, FL while maintaining a summer home in York, Maine. In York Jim worked at Cape Neddick Golf Course. He also served as President of the Mainly York Corporation for the community in which he lived. When not working Jim enjoyed gardening, golf and exploring the Maine coastline with family and friends. In Venice Jim was an active member of the Venice Lions Club. He enjoyed working the Sharks Tooth Festival, Hot Dog Stand, Vision Screenings for children, and preparing the Lions float for local parades. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at the Venice Theatre. Jim lived his life believing that the best way to help yourself was to help others. Jim will be remembered for the love, kindness, and support he shared with all that were lucky to know him. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 21st at 10am at Epiphany Cathedral, 350 Tampa Ave W. Venice, FL.
