James Baird Murdock, Jr.
Feb 7, 1928 — Sep 12, 2022
Jim Murdock Jr., 94, passed away on September 12, 2022. He was born in Cleveland, OH, on February 7, 1928, to Hazel and James Murdock. After graduating high school, Jim proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he became a skilled pilot operating B-25, AB-26, and C-47 aircraft. While stationed at Scott Field, IL, he met the love of his life, Marjorie Ann, at a local swimming pool in Lebanon, IL. They courted during Ann’s senior year of high school, and following Jim's one-year deployment to Goose Bay, Labrador, they were wed at Ann’s Presbyterian church in Lebanon.
Jim later transitioned from military service to pursue his passion for education, earning a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University. His distinguished engineering career took him and his family across the globe, with notable positions at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, TX; US Strike Command at MacDill Air Force Base, FL; the AF Contract Management Division for the C-5A Galaxy project in Marietta, GA; the Electronic Warfare Branch at the NATO-SHAPE Technical Center in the Netherlands; and AF ESD/MITRE C3 at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
Upon retiring in 1992, Jim made Venice, FL, his permanent home. He was a dedicated member of Christ United Methodist Church in Venice, enjoyed sailing with close friends, and treasured reconnecting with his past professional associates. Above all, Jim was a proud father and a deeply faithful husband, devoted to his adored wife, Marjorie Ann, for 71 beautiful years.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Ann; his brother Bruce (Betty) of Massillon, OH; his son James III (Kathy) of Venice, FL; and his granddaughters, Lauren Murdock-West (Michael) and Jasmine Murdock, both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ron (Bonnie) and Jon; and his son, Douglas (Fran).
A service honoring his life and legacy will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Venice.
John 10:28
28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
