James Bryson Warfel

Oct 10, 1951 — May 25, 2026

James Bryson Warfel, a resident of Venice since 2008 and formerly of Greenbelt, Maryland, crossed over to Larger Life at home on May 25, 2026. His brother was with him.

For 37 years, Jim worked for the Department of Agriculture; first at the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. and then at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, MD. Jim was a gentle, kind man who loved classical music, writing multiple choice trivia questions, and taking road trips with leisurely, spontaneous detours.

Jim is survived by his brother, The Rev. John Warfel and brother-in-law Garrison McDonough, both of Venice. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George "Lester" Warfel and Patricia Brohard Warfel; and by his sister Jeanne Warfel Buff, all of Venice. Jim was nephew to Mayor Smith D. Brohard, Venice's longest sitting mayor and the proprietor of Smitty's, Venice's original steak house.
