Janet Irene Stumpfig Woldt
November 29, 1932 - May 19, 2018
Janet was born in Lansing, Michigan to Alfred William Stumpfig, Sr. and Hilda Marshall Stumpfig. She was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in 1932. Her Christian education started in the Christ Lutheran Sunday School. She attended Lansing Public Schools and graduated from J. W. Sexton high school in 1950. She attended Michigan State University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She married her childhood sweetheart, William Enno Woldt, July 11, 1954. The newlyweds became the house parents of Martin Luther Chapel in East Lansing, Michigan. Jan began her teaching career at Mount Hope School in Lansing. She paused her teaching career to begin raising four girls, Julie Rose, Sharon Ruth, Janine Renee and Mary Beth. She resumed teaching in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the majority teaching all grades at Wood Creek Elementary School. She obtained her Master's in Education from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She and Bill retired to Houghton Lake Michigan in 1993 and moved to Venice Florida in 2011. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church her entire life and served as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher as well as singing alto in many church choirs. She also performed with the Mickenauk Choral Society in Roscommon, Michigan during retirement. She contributed to many charities including the Human Society.
She is survived by her beloved husband, The Rev. William Woldt of Venice Florida, her children Julie Woldt, Sharon Woldt, Janine Woldt and Mary Woldt Sorenson, her five grandchildren, Caitlin Talley, Braden Woldt-Babb, Cameron Sorenson, Corinne Lowery and Kylie Sorenson. She is also survived by her dear brother Alfred Stumpfig, Jr., and many relatives and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 12:00PM-1:00PM with the memorial service to follow at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers charitable donations can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Nokomis, Florida or a charity of your choice in memory of Janet Woldt.
