Jarl Larson Malwin

Jarl Larson Malwin (59) entered into the presence of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a sudden heart attack on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was born in Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Venice, FL where he was a 1975 graduate of Venice High School. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Florida, and for 30 years was a Registered Dental Hygienist. Jarl's larger than life personality led him into many adventures that would far surpass the bravest of souls. Growing up on the water, he could be found in the pools - competing in swimming and springboard diving throughout high school. His love of outdoors and all things sports took him from the football fields of Pop Warner to church softball fields, golf courses, and even the chained nets of Frisbee golf. But ultimately, the call of the water drew him back and he served many years saving lives as a lifeguard on the beaches of Siesta Key in Sarasota. It was in those same Gulf waters that Jarl spent time shark fishing, scuba diving, wind surfing, sailing Hobie Catamarans and kayaking. Though he loved his Florida waters he spent many summers in the welcoming little community of Pentwater, Michigan. He cut his teeth there fishing for bass on Bass Lake and then moved to the waters of Lake Michigan in search of salmon. But this small town young man had bigger fish to fry and actually biked across America from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean with WanderingWheels.org. Beyond his love of sports and fishing, Jarl simply loved people. He loved to laugh and he loved to make people laugh with puns which he referred to as ""Beetle Baileys."" But his biggest enjoyment outside of his love for God was his love of the Florida Gators! Especially when he could watch them trounce FSU or rout THE Ohio State on the old gridiron. He had a great deal of pride in the old Orange and Blue! Jarl's talents went well beyond his athletic prowess and spilled onto the pages of his cartoons. He was a proficient artist and used his art, not only to entertain, but to share his love for God and the incredible talent that God gave him. Ultimately, it was that very love and reverence of God that shaped Jarl into the man he became. He touched many lives around the globe with his desire for others to experience God's gift of salvation through Christ's death, burial and resurrection. He opened his home to scores of people for Bible studies, used every opportunity to share his faith with anyone he met, and turned every hardship into something that would bring honor and glory to his Heavenly Father. The pinnacle of his witness would ultimately be his creation of a ministry that touched hundreds of people - ""His Strength Not Mine"" Facebook page. Jarl exuded strength in his physical body, but he humbled himself in his spiritual walk and recognized that he must live his life through Christ's strength (Philippians 4:13). He learned to ""count others more significant than [himself]"" and looked ""not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."" (Philippians 2:3-4) It was on the pages of His Strength Not Mine that he bared his soul and poured out his heart to point people to Christ. Jarl will surely be missed by those who remain here without him. But, we know that for those who have accepted Christ as their savior, we can grieve with hope. For we know that we will see him again in the presence of God. (1 Thessalonians 4:13) Jarl leaves to cherish his memory, his Parents, Dr. Jarl & Beverly Malwin; his Wife, Anna Malwin; his Brother, Knute Malwin & Trish, his Brother Kurk Malwin & Wife Peggy; his Sister, Inger and Husband Fred Dabney; his Nieces and Nephews, Kyle & Maci Loncar; Dane Dabney; Ryan Malwin; Madison Malwin; Rees Malwin; Tanner Dabney; Great Nephews, Landon Malwin and Hudson Loncar and his Aunt, Judy Prickett. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 3:00pm at Venice Bible Church, 2395 Shamrock Drive, Venice, FL 34293.
