Jeanette Shaw
Sep 6, 1932 — Aug 2, 2025
Jeanette Shaw, 92, passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2025 in Venice, FL. She was born September 6, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts. Jeanette was a long time Lake Village Resident and also a snowbird visiting Plainville Massachusetts. She was the Lake Village Travel Club Coordinator along with her dear friend June Alfano. They organized many trips both local and abroad including cruises and bus trips.
Mom was part of the Greatest Generation. Having been raised during the Great Depression and coming of age after World War II, she brought with her a deep sense of family, a reverence for life and an unwavering commitment to do what is right. Her compassion, love, ready smile and instantaneous acceptance of others are among her greatest attributes. Those attributes proved to be very valuable when the time came to merge two families in 1970. When Alan Shaw and his three children accepted Mom and her family into their fold, Mom’s days became brighter and much more fulfilling through the artful expression of her whole being with her ceramics classes in the basement called 'The Busy Cellar'. This activity, along with her over 50 years’ association with the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs as both a member and their Secretary, added even more contentment to her twenty five years of life with Alan.
Mom’s family is grateful for all her contributions to our safety, security and prosperity during those wonderful years in Walpole. We learned her values of love, compassion and patience which were then applied to our own families with great success.
Jeanette is predeceased by Alan Shaw and is survived by her children Joan Somoza of Nokomis, FL; Peter Shaw (who is now deceased) of Little Compton, RI; John Saunders and his wife Christine of Sarasota, FL; Susan Shaw and her husband Kevin of Sarasota, FL; Sharon Saunders and her husband Larry of Bridgewater, MA; Glenn Saunders and his wife Susan of East Greenbush, NY; Gary Shaw of Millinocket, ME; three sisters, Elizabeth Perrin of California, Marilyn Barger of Missouri, Marrianne Underdown of Florida as well as her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with many other cherished friends from both Lake Village and Plainville.
There will be a service for Jeanette as she is laid to rest on January 14, 2026 at 10:00am at the Sarasota National Cemetery located at 9810 State Rd. 72 (SR-72) in Sarasota, Florida 34241. The phone number for the cemetery is 1-877-861-9840.
