John Darwin "Jack" Hardies

John ""Jack"" Hardies, 88, of Venice, FL, formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on January 18, 2017. Jack was an electrician for Hardies Electric Co. and other contractors, retiring in 1983 and moving to the area 14 years ago. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 236 for 55 years. Jack also enjoyed playing bocce, bingo, and pinochle with his friends. He liked attending plays and concerts and was always helping other people. He was also a member and assistant usher at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eleanor, of Venice, FL; son, David (Susan) of Charlton, MA; grandsons Matthew and Steven, both of Worcester, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edwin and George, and his sister, Pat. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 10AM at Epiphany Cathedral, with inurnment to follow in the church gardens. A reception will be held at Venice Isle Clubhouse #1 immediately after the burial.
