John Francis Sordillo

John F. Sordillo retired Deputy Chief of City of Somerville, MA. He was age 79, a resident of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Somerville and North Reading MA, passed away early morning of Monday June 22, 2026 at Doctor's Hospital of Sarasota.

Born in Somerville on February 17, 1947 he was the son of the late Anthony J. Sordillo and Gilda O. (Biancamano) Sordillo. John was raised in Somerville, attended Catholic elementary/junior schools and graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Cambridge, MA. Following high school, he attended Bunker Hill Community College and earned an Associate Degree. Afterwards Bentley University in Waltham, MA where he received his Bachelor of arts in Business Management. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge from active duty in March 1970. While in the Army he met his loving wife, Theresa C. Sordillo (Steacher).

Prior to his retirement, he was a dedicated team member of Somerville Fire Department. He worked very hard to earn his title, Chief Deputy. He faithfully served the city of Somerville for 33 years. John was an athlete in his youth having played baseball and football. He was a big fan of all sports, especially the New England Patriots. His great love was golf. He was always trying to perfect his gameplay. He headed a golf group in his community to play at least twice a week.

John is survived by his loving wife Theresa C Sordillo and son Michael Sordillo both of Sarasota, FL. Also, by his daughter Michelle DuPaul of Kewanee, IL. He leaves behind five grandkids, Elijah, Bella, Isaiah, Noelle and Noah. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

A committal service will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery at 12:30 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026. It will be arranged by Farley Funeral Home at 265 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice FL 34285.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in his name at Saint Jude's Hospital and American Cancer Society.
