John Stier
October 17, 1951 — April 24, 2026
John Stier, 74, made his final ascent on April 24, 2026. Born John Eugene Stier Jr. on October 17, 1951 to John and Georgian Stier of Cincinnati, OH, he was a sociable and humble man. John thoroughly enjoyed life and bringing joy to others. He was a loving and devoted husband to Deborah (Lampman) Stier (m. 1993) and a deeply dedicated stepfather to Michael and Ryan McCallum.
John retired as a Captain with United Technologies Corporation in 2011 after 28 years piloting the skies. It was truly a dream job for him as he enjoyed traveling the world, reaching nearly every continent, and experiencing many cultures.
After retirement, John and Debbie moved to Venice, FL and continued to travel, trading the skies for land and sea. Numerous National Parks were visited criss-crossing the US in their Fifth-wheel Montana, and several memories were made cruising the seas and oceans of the world. When he wasn’t traveling, John often had a fishing pole or a golf club in his hands. He loved to share his knowledge of and passion for deep-sea fishing with everyone, and he was an encouraging competitor on the fairways. He eventually traded those for trips around the block on his little red bike. His outgoing and positive attitude was admired by all who knew him and he was a true and loyal friend to all.
In addition to his wife and stepsons, John is survived by his siblings Donna Smith, Mary Kay Bugman, and James and his nephews Todd and Eric Smith and Jonathan Bugman.
A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, 1301 Center Rd., Venice, FL on Friday, May 1st, at 10 a.m.
