Joseph Loparco

Joseph Anthony Loparco (“Joe”) of Venice, FL passed away at his home on May 17, 2018. Born February 5, 1938 to Horace and Fanny Loparco and a proud, long-time resident of Greenwich, CT, Joe graduated from Greenwich High School where he was an outstanding athlete, captain and quarterback of his high school football team. He served several years in the U.S. Army before earning a degree in education from Central Connecticut State University. Joe spent the early part of his career teaching drafting and industrial arts at Central Junior High School in Greenwich before starting his own successful carpentry and contracting business, Cos Cob Carpentry, which he ran until his retirement to Florida in 2015. Joe’s reputation as a skilled master craftsman was well known throughout Greenwich and the surrounding communities. Joe was a dedicated family man, and is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn Tripodi Loparco of Venice, FL; daughter Mary-Jo Loparco of Norwalk, CT (Steven); son Joseph Loparco, Jr. of Avon, CT (Kristen); son Vincent Loparco of Colorado Springs, CO (Jenna); a brother, Michael Loparco of Sarasota, FL; beloved grandchildren Karly, Kate, Emma, Brooklynn and Jake; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. In addition to family and work, Joe was active in the local community through his participation in the Chickahominy Reunion Association, the Greenwich Citizens Police Academy and, most recently, the Northport, FL Citizens Public Safety Academy. Joe also taught adult continuing education woodworking classes at Greenwich High School, and excelled at boxing during his service in the Army. Playing golf and making wine with family and friends rounded out his many passions in life. A memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at Farley’s Funeral Home in Venice, FL on May 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., with internment at Sarasota National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. A separate memorial service will be held in Greenwich at a date to be determined.
