Joseph Michael Popp
Aug 7, 1947 — Sep 23, 2026
Joseph M. Popp, age 79, passed away at home on September 23, 2026, after a brief illness, in the arms of his loving wife, Barbara.
Born on August 7, 1947, in Windber, Pennsylvania, Joe grew up to graduate from New Brunswick High School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He went on to attend Rider University and proudly served a brief stint in the United States Navy. Joseph spent many years serving his community as a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service, and later concluded his career working at Crest Cadillac in Venice, Florida.
Joe had a great passion for cooking and baking, and he mastered many traditional Hungarian recipes that he learned from his mother. Outside of the kitchen, he loved his Sunday morning golf outings with friends and was an avid sports fan who spent his happiest weekends cheering on his favorite teams. Joe was a devoted animal lover who deeply adored his three cats: Willow, Mango, and Gabby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Popp, and his sister, Lillian Boysen.
Joe is survived by the love of his life and wife of 39 years, Barbara (DiGiovanni) Popp. He is also survived by his wonderful children, Eileen Tarity (Mike), Michael Doto, Brian Doto, Joe Doto (Mary Ellen), and Karen Rocco (Jeff); his cherished grandchildren, Tim Popp, Brian McNamee (Emily), Bailey Rocco-Smith (Luke), Brady Rocco, Mia Doto, Gianna Doto, J.D. Doto and Ellie Doto; his great-grandson, Trea McNamee and brother and sister-in-law, Al and Debbie DiGiovanni.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, family, friends, neighbors, and all who knew him. He also leaves a quiet void in the hearts of his three kitties, who will miss him dearly.
In accordance with Joe’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, the family asks that you make a toast in his memory while playing a round of golf, routing for your favorite sports team, or relaxing on the beach.
